Focus and Scope

Popular Anthropology Magazine is a biannual online publication affiliated with Southern Illinois University Carbondale aimed at increasing public understanding and access to current research in the field of anthropology, with a focus on raising awareness of anthropology's relevance to issues of public interest and exploring the ways in which anthropology is learned as a discipline. The magazine includes articles on sociocultural anthropology, biological anthropology, archaeology, linguistics and visual anthropology.

Popular Anthropology Magazine seeks article submissions in Sociocultural Anthropology, Biological Anthropology, Archaeology, Linguistics and Visual Anthropology. Submissions should include original research and in some way address anthropology's relevance to issues of public interest. Articles must be between 2000 to 5000 words in length and be written in a manner accessible to the general public. Submissions from undergraduate and graduate students are welcome.

 

Section Policies

 

Peer Review Process

Articles in the Archaeology, Sociocultural, Physical and Visual Anthropology sections are peer reviewed by two reviewers, who are given three weeks to complete their review.

 

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
